On August 10, 2009, at the offices of the American Reform Party the voting members held a special meeting. At the meeting, founder and party Chairman, Roy Downing announced that he was retiring as National Chairman and asked the members to accept his resignation. He further announced and asked the members to accept the nomination and appointment of Michael F Simone as his successor and the Party's new National Chairman Pro-tem until the next National Convention. The meeting was attended by a majority of voting party members who accepted both Roy Downing’s resignation and his recommendation for the appointment of Mr. Simone as our new Chairman.
Mr. Simone’s first order of business was to put forth the motion to appoint Mr. Downing as the Party's Vice Chairman Pro-tem. The motion was unanimously approved. Mr. Downing will also be remaining on as the Chairman of the American Reform Party of New Jersey where he will be narrowing his focus to the New Jersey elections of ARP supported candidates for reform.
Mr. Downing in resignation and in his appointment to Vice-Chair thanked everyone for allowing him to serve the party over the past several and expressed his excitement in Mr. Simone's appointment. Roy said “Mr. Simone will bring an exuberant amount of enthusiasm and energy to our party and its membership. He fully recognizes, given today's political environment, that now more than ever before there is a crying need for a legitimate third party in this Country.” He further stated “ I have no doubt that with Mr. Simone’s political experience and both his organizational and technical skills, will lead us to our goal for a strong independent third party.”
Mr. Simone thanked the members in attendance and asked for their patience and continued support during the transition and acquaints himself with many of our State Chairpersons and representatives. Mr. Simone said he will begin making the necessary operational & procedural changes including the immediate overhaul of the Party’s website to create greater user acceptance, market penetration and search engine recognition. Mr. Simone said “I expect to have our website redesigned, with more current content that represents the party's position, goals and fund raising efforts, within the next two weeks”
The Party will be informing its members of the change when it is available
