How To Fix Congress And Control Government

Don Torgersen : December 02, 2010

I propose the American People insist on the following Congressional Term Limit Amendment to our Constitution in order to eliminate the career politician that, invariably leads to corruption, elitism and an oppressive government,  while ensuring the election of sincere, honest and common sense candidates to address the current issues and concerns facing the country during their incumbency. I hereby propose the following Congressional Act.

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits

No Senator or Congressman shall serve more than a maximum of 12 years under one of the possible options below.

   A. Two Six-year Senate terms

   B. Six Two-year House terms

   C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2.  No Tenure / No Pension.  A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.  All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are Null and Void effective 01/01/2012.

Serving in Congress was never intended to be a career but was viewed by our Founders as an honor and privilege. We must insist on a return to this ideal. The American people never made the existing contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, not career politicians to serve your term(s), and upon completion of their service to the people, where to honorably return home and back to work.

IN GOD WE TRUST, GOD BLESS USA

PS. Some food for thought..."My 20 People "

If each person reading this article contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive this message. Time has come for us to reach all Americans!

I actually agree with you on this in part. I would be interested to see who in both parties would support the idea and oppose it.

Introduction to Middle America Reform Party

Middle America must govern.

Middle America must re-citizenize, reform government representation, and govern through revitalized democratic institutions.

Here’s why:
The 1776 constitution was first practiced by 90 congresspersons for 2.4 million Americans. This is one congressperson per 26,666 citizens. This was the founder’s best guess at proper citizen representation in democracy.

Today’s 2010 constitution is practiced by 535 congresspersons for 306 million Americans. This is one congressperson per 572,000 citizens.

Today’s 2010 constitution practices citizen representation at less than 5% the 1776 founder’s best guess representation estimate. Today’s American democracy is practiced at 5% the citizenization (representation) of the 1790 congress. Herein lies the crutch of America’s governance difficulties.

To practice the constitution today at the citizenization level of 1776 requires a congress of 11,500 membership. To put 11,500 into perspective, walmart has 2.5 million employees, the pentagon has 26,000 employees, and the presidential executive has 1.5 million employees. Over a thousand existing American corporations have more than 11,500 employees. 11,500 is the size of a small university system.

When service in a restaurant suffers, more waiters are required. When fire breaks out everywhere, more fire fighters are required. When crime becomes rampant, more police are required. When democratic institutions falter, more congresspersons are required. The antidote to corruption of power is disbursement of power. Step it up, America. Be proactive. Check out plan-b.

Citizen is coach to team democracy. Coach is responsible for success. It’s your call, coach.

    WHY A CONVENTION OF STATES?

Simple: to bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs. Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. shouldn’t be allowed to make sweeping decisions that impact millions of Americans. But right now, they do. So it all boils down to one question: Who do you think should decide what’s best for you and your family? You, or the feds? We’d vote for the American people every single time.
